It is truly sad to think that my first placement is almost over for my first internship. Being at Avalon Middle School has been a great experience and I am just starting to build great rapport with the students in my classes. I get to know them more and more as we move along together through the material. They always look forward to seeing me and always greet me in the hallways. Even the teachers around the hallway like me and I like them. I love being in a school because the teachers always greet you in the morning.
Anyways, I will post my BC/AD lesson after I update my procedures and activities on it. But it turned out great.
Thomas Jefferson named the first Secretary of State.
So, yesterday was insane. Even though the students were only taking a quiz on “What is History” and all they have learned for the past 2 weeks, including what I taught them.
But after yesterday I was EXHAUSTED!!! Even though with the test, I was walking around the whole time. The students always had questions, of course ones I couldn’t answer. The worst part was that they were asking questions about parts of the test which I taught. It made me very sad. =(
Went to target and the dollar store. Spent $43.
This is what I got:
30 book covers
2 accordion folders
6 US Puzzles
3 historical books
Pope Francis: Church can’t ‘interfere’ with gays
This is a huge step for the churches leader. I am honestly surprised to see this happening. A pope is saying let the homosexuals do what they want and that they shouldn’t interfere. Finally some common sense coming from the church.
So, my supervising teacher is going over primary and secondary sources. And I am really jealous of all the history she owns.
On Tuesday she brought in the American that flew on her grandfathers naval ship during world war 2. The thing was massive. I was having heart palpitations from just touching it.
Today she brought in some old new papers and magazines. A time magazine from 1969 during the lunar missions. News papers from the day of the Pearl Harbor bombings. She had a newspaper from 1969 before the launch.
I am seriously in historical heaven.
Been working on this for a bit. Still have a few states to go. When I’m done with it I will post a final picture of it.
So I never posted after my internship on Thursday. I was so busy with other school and work things I had no time.
Anyways, Thursday went great. I taught my full lesson on BC/AD/BCE/CE. My first time administering the lesson during first period it didn’t go as planned. I of course sped through the lesson as I talk really fast when I am nervous. After 1st period my teacher gave me some tips and I immediately put them into practice.
The part that I was missing was the building background knowledge before getting into the activities. So, starting in second period I had them reading out of their textbook. There were two pages that were really able to build the background knowledge and giving them the most important information needed to understand the concept.
My activity was simple, “place the pieces of papers with dates of historical significance in CHRONOLOGICAL order”. Luckily the majority of the students understood it. But to make sure they did, we had them create their own timelines with themselves and their date of birth.
My style of teaching is very hands on and not just reading from the textbook. I find that the easy way out. Yes I did have them read from the book, but it was just a small portion of like 3 small paragraphs between 2-3 pages.
But as the day went on I got better and better at it. My supervising teacher is supposed to evaluate me. She said I have all the basics down and that I did use common core practices. But I need to work on classroom management which she said “you won’t get that down in a day, a week, a month, not even a year”. Which I know is true. Classroom management when you have to learn the learning styles of 150 students and then differentiate between AP and Regular classes is one of the most difficult things to do as a teacher. She did say that I did very well differentiating my instruction between the AP and regular classes. She also stated that I used esol strategies for her multi-lingual students.
I am hoping to be posting some current events soon.
Thank you for following me!
Apple v. Android
So, Apple introduced their TWO, yes two, new iPhone designs. The 5s and the 5c. The 16Gb 5c will be $99 with a contract. The specs on these new phones look amazing.
I have had an iPhone for 1.5 years now and will be renewing next April. I am trying to decide if I want to switch back to an android or stay with the iPhone and get one of these new ones. By the time I get to renew the new phones will be even cheaper (hopefully).
However, I have been looking at the Motorolla MotoX which is the first American Made Smartphone. I have been all about American made lately as it does stimulate our own economy and creates new jobs. So, I might go with that when it comes available for Sprint.
I haven’t decided yet. What are all your thoughts?
